Oak Hill/Brown Speech Team

Dear 5th Grade Parents,

Next year your child will have the opportunity to participate on the Oak Hill/Brown Speech Team. The Oak Hill/Brown Speech Team is a competitive public speaking team which trains 6th – 8th grade students in the following categories: prose, poetry, duo/multiple interpretation, original oratory, declamation, demonstration and impromptu speaking. Our team features mentoring by members of Newton South’s nationally ranked Speech & Debate Team and is a member of the Massachusetts Middle School Forensics League (MMSFL).

Speech Team provides students with skills that last a lifetime – the ability to present oneself in small and large groups, overcome fear of speaking in public, be part of a competitive yet supportive team environment and experience the excitement of major tournament competition.

Registration is very limited and will become available in early August through Newton Community Ed. Classes will take place at Newton South High School on Monday afternoons during the school year. Monthly competitions take place on Sundays and attract hundreds of students from private/public schools throughout the state.

Check out NCE’s website in early August for registration http://www2.newtoncommunityed.org/.
