After several weeks the city has decided to end the bus trial soon (although the trial should not be characterized as a failure). The city will ask their painting contractor to return Brookline Street to how it appeared prior to the trial – the temporary island will be ground out. Everything should go back to operating as it did prior to the trial. The one exception is that the handicap parking space that was located close to the entrance (in the blue zone) will remain where it is. Parents should remember not to park within the handicap space unless they have a valid handicap placard, and no vehicle should ever block the curb cut – the fine for parking in either space is $200 for the first offense.
The next step is for the Engineering Division of DPW will begin the work to design a bus lane on school property, which will then need to be vetted.
