Weekly Update

*****Thursday is an early release day for all students (12:30pm) *****

PARCC Testing Data has been released and individual testing reports will be coming home soon.  In general, Memorial-Spaulding students performed quite well.  Our school has been designated as a Level 1 (high achieving) school by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  School-wide accountability information will be available on the school’s website in coming days.

Principal’s Forums on our School Vision and Mission.  You are invited to meet with me to discuss vision for our school.  As I mentioned at Open House, I would like to engage parents in conversation about our collective vision and your hopes and dreams for our school community.   Please plan to join me at Memorial-Spaulding on one of the following dates: Friday, October 14th @ 8:30-9:30am / Friday, October 28th @ 8:30-9:30am / Thursday, November 17th @ 6:30-7:30pm.

School Council is a group of three parent volunteers, along with teachers, principal and a community representative.  The Council will be meeting once per month from 4-5pm (specific meeting days TBD).  The primary charge of the Council will be developing the School Improvement Plan and working to create and support the school’s vision.  If you are interested in serving on the Council, please send me an email indicating your interest by Friday, October 7th.  More than three parent volunteers will require an election.

Responsive Home Workshop:  The tools of Responsive Classroom can be used to help create a calm, supportive and encouraging environment at home, too!  Newton Public Schools is sponsoring an event that is Open to the Public – No Registration Required

This overview workshop will be offered on multiple dates:  Thursday, October 13th 6:30pm – 8:30pm, District Education Center, room 210, 100 Walnut St., Newtonville OR Tuesday, October 18th 6:30pm – 8:30pm Angier Elementary School, 1697 Beacon Street, Waban OR Monday, November 7th 6:30pm – 8:30pm District Education Center, room 210 OR Thursday, December 1st 6:30pm – 8:30pm District Education Center, room 210

Join us to learn useful steps to creating a Responsive Home including: Family Meeting, Interactive Modeling,  Logical Consequences, House Rules, Positive Language Choice and Quiet Time.

This workshop will be taught by Amy Kelly, District Leader of Social and Emotional Learning, Newton Public Schools.
