Newton Cub Scout Pack 210 is a great group — well-organized but laid back and non-denominational. We have boys from all around Newton (Ward, Bowen, Countryside, Franklin, Williams, Mason Rice, Memorial Spaulding), and our Pack is, and has always been, 100% inclusive in all respects!
The Pack meets regularly each month September – May, normally at the Carrol Center for the Blind “Tech Center” on Centre Street (next to Mt. Alvernia High/across from Newton Country Day) or off-site if activities have been scheduled, and the five grade-based Dens each also meet regularly once a month as well. (So two weeknight meetings per month during the school-year.) We also have, on average, one optional weekend outing a month like a hike or a camping trip/overnight adventure. Our Pinewood Derby is a great event, held every February.
Our 2017-18 schedule and other information can be found on our website, here (and more general information on the Cub Scout program is available from the Boy Scouts of America [BSA] here). Our dues will be $150 for the year, which includes a scout handbook (there is one for each of the 4 levels), all awards given, many (but not all) Den and Pack events/activities (e.g., admission &/or group reservation fees, food at certain events, etc.), and things like BSA regional and national dues. (We also ask each boy to buy a uniform shirt and neckerchief.)
We would love to introduce you to our Pack, and answer any questions you have, at our 2017-18 kick-off/welcome meeting, Thursday September 14, 6:30 – 8pm at the Carrol Center’s Tech Center (770 Centre St.). All are welcome to come, ask questions and sign up for scouting (or not – you can decide later!). Our program that night will include a short presentation for the parents and ice cream for the kids!
Feel free to get in touch with me, or with the Chair of our Parent’s Committee, Azita Kaffashan (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have any questions between now and then!
