World Environment Day

World Environment Day – June 5th

Memorial Spaulding parents!

We are just over two weeks away from Color Day (June 4th), which falls the day before World Environment Day.  Like many of you, I have been feeling helpless and angry about the recent United Nations reports that we are facing a global environmental catastrophe if we don’t start acting now to save our planet.

This World Environment Day, the UN is calling on people everywhere to take concrete steps to #BeatPlasticPollution in their own lives.  The advice with plastic is always REDUCE and then RECYCLE.  Single-use plastic popsicle wrappers cannot be put out in curb-side recycling in Newton, so we have decided that we will not add 450+ plastic popsicle wrappers to the trash on Color Day.  We will providing the children with fresh, juicy slices of orange and melon to enjoy and I hope you will agree that this is more than adequate at the end of physical activity.

We would love for you to share with your children WHY we are doing this and that this contribution to their planet’s welfare is important.  If you would like some more information on the subject and some ideas on how you can help, please click the UN link.

Thank you.

The Color Day team.
