Middle School Athletics Announcement Fall Sports 2016-2017

Dear Oak Hill Families,

We are excited to share some helpful information about registering for our 2016 fall season middle school athletics program. The fall programs include Boys’ Soccer (grades 7 and 8), Girls’ Soccer (grades 7 and 8), Football (grades 7 and 8), and Cross Country (6th,7th and 8th).

Registration/Sign Up:  Families must register all student athletes and enter basic contact and medical information on the [ https://www.familyid.com/pages/home ]FamilyID site for our school.  Each participant must be registered before participating in concussion testing, tryouts or practice. Additional directions for the [ https://www.familyid.com/pages/home ]FamilyID site are listed below. Registration will open on June 27 and will remain open for the entire summer and close at 11:00 pm on September 8. Tryouts will begin the following Monday, September 12.

Please understand that students will not be allowed to attend a tryout until your family has registered through[ https://www.familyid.com/pages/home ] FamilyID, had their concussion testing (by September 9) and submitted an up-to-date physical.  Please see the next paragraph about Physicals.

Physical Documentation: All students participating in after-school sports are required to bring a copy of their most recent physical exam prior to the start of the sports season which includes tryouts and practices. “A physical exam covers the student for 13 months from the exam date.  A student’s eligibility will terminate once a physical has reached the 13 month limit.”  (Taken from MIAA Regulations 56.1).  A hard copy of a complete physical must be turned into School Nurse Susan Riley (617-559-9215) or susan_riley@newton.k12.ma.us.

Fee Payment: All fee payments can be made through the[ http://www.newton.k12.ma.us/feebasedprograms ] City of Newton fee payment system (UniPay Gold). If necessary, families may still pay by check. (Checks for $160 should be payable to “City of Newton.”) Checks may be submitted to Mr. Russell Hunt, the Oak Hill Athletics/EEE Manager. Please do not pay the user fee until the final team rosters have been determined. Families may also request financial assistance, also known as a fee waiver, using the form posted on[ https://www.familyid.com/pages/home ] FamilyID. Information for fee waivers is also available [ http://www.newton.k12.ma.us/cms/lib8/MA01907692/Centricity/Domain/91/Application%20for%20Financial%20Assistance%202015-2016.pdf ]here.

If you have any questions about registration through Family ID please call their helpline at 888-800-5583. They have outstanding customer service. If you have any general questions about the season or the middle school after-school athletics programs, please feel free to contact Oak Hill’s Athletics/EEE Manager Mr. Hunt. He is most easily reached through email: [ mailto:russell_hunt@newton.k12.ma.us ]russell_hunt@newton.k12.ma.us.

Best,

John

One School One Book

June 21, 2016

Dear Families,

We are so excited that summer is almost here so we can get started reading the One School One Book selection, Losing It by Erin Fry. Unfortunately, for those of you who ordered a copy of the book, there has been a delay in the ordering process. The books will not arrive before the last day of school; therefore, in order to accommodate everyone who ordered the book through Oak Hill, the Oak Hill lobby will be open for you to stop by to pick up your book.

Please see the lobby hours below.

Tuesday June 28th 8:30-10:30 & 1:00-3:00

Wednesday June 29th 8:30-10:30 & 1:00-3:00

We realize that this has caused an added inconvenience to the beginning of your summer plans and we cannot apologize enough. We understand that some of you may not be able to stop by Oak Hill during the lobby hours. If this is the case, please be assured that your child will receive his/her book order at the beginning of school in September. The Book Celebration Day is not until September 29, so he/she will still have time to read the book before then.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email Kerry Winer, Oak Hill Literacy Coach, at winerk@newton.k12.ma.us Enjoy your summer!

No using Cell phones during the school day

Dear 5th grade families,

I want to remind everyone that cell phones can not be used during the school day by the children.  They may bring them to school so they can be reached before or after school but they can not be used while school is in session.  If you want to reach your child, please call the school.  If your child needs to speak with you, we will let them call you.  After 3:00 they can use their phone.  Your child can keep their phone in their locker or give it to their classroom teacher when they get to school.  Then they can get it back from the teacher at the end of the  day.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Lisa
