Greetings from the Memorial-Spaulding Parent-Teacher Organization

WELCOME MEMORIAL-SPAULDING FAMILIES!

We hope that you had an enjoyable and fun-filled summer! For those of you who are new to Memorial-Spaulding, welcome to the Memorial-Spaulding family! We are so excited to get to know you and your family throughout the course of the school year. For those of you who are returning, welcome back to a brand new year!

Planning is well underway for programming and fundraisers and we are very excited to share with you our new vision for the upcoming year. Our vision for the PTO this year is “Fortifying Our Community Through Inclusion and Enhancing Our Children’s Educational Experience Through Technology.”

Because you are a Memorial Spaulding parent/guardian, you are automatically a member of the Memorial-Spaulding PTO. In order to provide the programming envisioned for the upcoming school year, WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! Without your active participation and financial support, the PTO CANNOT function.
This year, we anticipate that we will have approximately 300 families at Memorial-Spaulding, and our aim is to have at least 270 contributing families, which equates to a school-wide participation level of 90%. We are asking each Memorial-Spaulding family to contribute at least $75.

So that you can get a better sense of what the PTO is doing for the school and your child, here is an estimate of cost per student:

Again this year, instead of selling wrapping paper or magazines which was done in years past, the PTO would like to fund the majority of programming throughout the school year through the funds we receive from YOU. We are asking for a family contribution of $75, which we hope to receive by September 23rd. We understand that not all families are financially able to contribute $75. For those families unable to contribute $75, we are asking you to be as generous as you can. If you are trying to figure out whether or not to send in a contribution, we ask that you please keep in mind the significant impact these funds have on our school and our children’s educational experience at Memorial-Spaulding. We want to ensure that we can offer all of the planned programming this school year, and in order to do that, we need your help in achieving our goal of raising $22,000.00. As an incentive, if we, as a community, reach our goal and raise $19,000.00 by September 23rd, the PTO will sponsor a movie night for the whole school in late September. Please check our school bulletin board in the main hallway and our website for up-to-date information regarding our collection progress.

To send in your family contribution, please send a check (payable to the “Memorial-Spaulding PTO”) to the school using the designated form below, or pay online – via the “Donate” button at www.memorialspauldingpto.org – by SEPTEMBER 23rd. You can also bring your check to Curriculum Night September 13th!

UPCOMING EVENTS

We are planning two additional targeted fundraising drives this school year:
Technology Fund Drive: This drive aims to raise at least $10,000 per year for technology throughout the school. There will be a number of events and opportunities to help Memorial Spaulding raise these critical funds. Stay tuned for additional details on how you can participate.
Library “Celebrate with a Book” Drive: This drive aims to raise approximately $3,000 in new books for the school library.

THE MYSTERY DINNER IS BACK! We will have our 2nd annual Mystery Dinner on November 3rd. Please save the date! This is a great community-building event for Memorial Spaulding parents. It’s a great way to meet new (and reconnect with old) friends in the Memorial-Spaulding parent community. If you would like to host a dinner or help manage this event, please let us know!

MEMORIAL-SPAULDING PTO FUNDED PROGRAMS

The notes below provide additional information on each of the budget line-items referenced in the accompanying PTO letter.

1) In-School Creative Arts & Sciences: This is a city-wide program funded by PTOs to bring high-quality enrichment programs to our schools. During the school year, there are at least one to two programs planned per grade each year.

2) Teacher Reimbursement (Supplies): With the school system’s budget stretched thin, our teachers typically pay for needed supplies for their classrooms. The PTO reimburses teachers up to $75 per classroom for needed classroom supplies.

3) Mini-grant Program: This program is designed to provide teachers at Memorial-Spaulding an opportunity to obtain funding for projects that will enhance the education experience for students at the school.

4) Teacher’s Professional Development Fund: This fund provides teachers an opportunity to take seminars that will enhance their knowledge base and that will expose them to new ideas and methods of teaching which they can ultimately incorporate in the classroom setting.

5) Library: In addition to the annual Book Sale, the PTO contributes up to $2,000 each year toward database subscriptions, new books, and other materials.

6) Financial Aid Fund: The PTO provides support to families who may require assistance with school related expenses and field trip fees, etc.
