Memorial Spaulding school to celebrate International Walk to School Day on Wednesday October 8th, 2014
Approximately 600 students from the Newton area, will be walking to school Wednesdays along with parents, teachers and community leaders.
Start from your home or park and walk! Try parking 1/2 mile away and walk to school. The average 1/2 mile walk for elementary aged children is 20 minutes. Walkers will arrive at the school at 8:15 to receive their Walk to School gift. If you unable to walk and want to share in the spirit come receive a gift.
Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.
The event is being organized by Memorial Spaulding school parents and staff and the Department of Transportation.
