We live in a world surrounded by technology. We know that whatever career our learners choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on their understanding of how technology works.
Over the next several weeks, our school is joining in a nation-wide learning event, The Hour of Code. More than 100 million students worldwide will also be participating in this event. At Memorial Spaulding, the Hour of Code is an introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. In addition, The Hour of Code encourages critical thinking, problem solving and perseverance, and supports Newton’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) initiatives.
See https://code.org/learn for details, and help spread the word. You can also go to our school’s website http://www.newton.k12.ma.us/memorialspaulding for links to additional activities that you can do at home. We are looking forward to learning and exploring the world of code together.
