Although the temperature has gotten very cold it is actually time to start thinking about summer camp. I want to alert you to a few resources that can help you in your camp search and summer planning.
City of Newton Camps
There are many day camps in Newton.
Newton Parks and Recreation has many different camps located throughout the city. Information about each camp can be found on line at
http://www.newtonma.gov/gov/parks/camps/default.asp
Their brochures, camp applications, medical forms and scholarship applications are all on their website. If you do not have access to a computer and/or printer please call me and make an appointment and you can come to school and we can print them out together.
Camp Fair
Each year the City of Newton has a Camp Fair in late January. This year it is Sunday January 31 (rain date Feb. 27) from 12:00 – 4:00. It is held at Newton North High School cafeteria. The purpose of the camp fair is to learn about all the City of Newton camps and meet some of the people who work there. The Camp Fair will also have brochures.
Signing Up for Camp
Camps will be open for on-line enrollment after the camp fair. Many camps fill up quickly so it is recommended that you make your decision based on the information at the Camp Fair or information you have learned on the website, and register on Wed. Feb 3 (Feb. 10 snow date).
Camps fill up quickly. In order not to overload the on-line system the registration is staggered so each camp has a time slot. Please check the website for this information.
Paying for Camp
How do I apply for financial assistance? A person may request a scholarship by filling out the scholarship application form. This form is available at http://www.newtonma.gov/gov/parks/camps/scholarship.asp
You must register your child in camp before filling out the scholarship form. A copy of your most recent tax returns, or other appropriate paperwork, must be included with this form. If you have not yet filed your tax returns, you can attach a copy of your previous years returns until your current returns are complete. A tax return, or other appropriate documentation, must be submitted in order to receive a scholarship.
Child Care Scholarship Fund
Each year income eligible families can apply for additional funds for camp through the Child Care Scholarship Fund. This application also requires your most recent tax returns. These applications are available in the late winter and early spring. You can contact scholarshipfund@thenewtonpartnership.org and request an application. You can also contact me directly because typically they send me applications as well.
