Dear Memorial Spaulding Community,
If you have driven by our school recently, you may have noticed that it looks a bit different. The front garden and lawn are being dug up! This came as a surprise to PTO leadership. Working with city officials, we have been able to access a few details which we wanted to share with you.
This project is going to be a bus lane in front of our school. The need for the bus lane came from the safety issues surrounding traffic on Brookline Street. This is going to be a tremendous improvement to the flow of traffic and ultimately will help keep our kids safe.
Please see the attached rendering for details. Please note that the PTO did raise a few concerns. We wanted to make sure that the Memorial Plaque that was featured in our garden would be available. We also were concerned about the hard work the school parents put in last year as far as planting and landscaping.
City officials have assured us that they have the plaque. They will be seeking our input on the location of the plaque, the siting of new plantings and trees and a new location for the flag pole.
Thomas Morris, our new principal, has been notified and we will likely have communications soon about the specifics around drop off and pick up logistics.
